Conor McGregor has declared that he is finished with 'flashing money' and is now 'over all this materialistic bulls---' as he prepares for his highly anticipated UFC return this summer. The Irish fighter is set to face Max Holloway at UFC 329 on 11th July, marking his first bout in five years after a period marred by injuries, legal issues, and an unhealthy lifestyle.
McGregor has recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Ariel Helwani Show in an effort to repair his tarnished reputation. During his conversation with Helwani, the Dublin native revealed he had reached his lowest point and detailed the deliberate changes he is making to leave behind his former self, especially regarding lavish spending and negative influences.
'I'm different, brother. I'm different,' McGregor told the MMA journalist. 'I am really, truly in my heart and soul over all this materialistic bulls---. I find myself in a fight still. The rent is due every day.' He added that he won't be 'flashing money' and has 'won the Forbes list' but will not appear on it again, citing the negative attention it brought.
Throughout his absence from the UFC, McGregor embraced a high-octane party scene, regularly spotted at exclusive venues worldwide. However, as he has worked towards his comeback, he has made conscious efforts to distance himself from that world, pursuing 'lifesaving' alternative therapies including Ibogaine treatment for trauma, while recommitting to rigorous gym training.
The Irishman candidly discussed the challenges of his five-year hiatus, acknowledging the difficult path back. 'Sometimes when you're down in a place, you don't feel anything else. You have no emotion, you're just reckless,' he said. 'When you hit rock bottom... I've had a few dark moments. I was put in a position to showcase my strength. It ain't easy.'
