Andoni Iraola First Liverpool Press Conference: Transfers, Slot Exit, and Future Plans
Iraola's First Liverpool Press Conference: Transfers and Plans

Andoni Iraola has been the Liverpool head coach for six weeks, but now the hard work really begins. The Reds took most people by surprise when they sacked Arne Slot at the end of May, following a difficult campaign where they finished fifth in the Premier League, having been backed to defend their 2024/25 title.

Iraola's Appointment and Style

Iraola was quickly appointed after Slot's dismissal. His style of play during three seasons at Bournemouth, where he was hired by Reds sporting director Richard Hughes, was seen as a key reason for his arrival. Getting Liverpool back to playing front-foot, aggressive football is a key goal for Iraola.

As he faces the media for the first time at 11am, including our own Paul Gorst, we'll bring every word from the new Liverpool head coach.

Topics to Discuss

There is plenty for the media to quiz Iraola on. He has already made his first signing: Spanish winger Victor Munoz, who turns 23 today. More transfers are likely to be high on the agenda as the Reds chase reinforcements in all areas.

Iraola may also be asked about the World Cup, as Munoz and Alexis Mac Allister are still in action with Spain and Argentina in the semi-finals. The rest of the Liverpool contingent have been eliminated. Will they be back in time for the USA tour?

Off-Field Matters

Off-field issues may also arise. Michael Edwards' departure from his role with FSG was announced on Friday, and the future of Richard Hughes is uncertain as he is expected to leave for Saudi Arabia.
