Harry Kane: It's England's Time for World Cup Glory

England captain Harry Kane has declared that it is England's time to claim World Cup glory, as he prepares to face Argentina in a semifinal that he describes as a "childhood dream." Kane, who is on the verge of breaking Wayne Rooney's record for most caps by an outfield player, insists that after years of near misses, the team is ready to seize the moment.

Kane's Childhood Dream and Beckham Inspiration

Kane revealed that his standout England memory is watching David Beckham score the winning penalty against Argentina in the 2002 World Cup. He recalled the moment vividly: "Red kit, yellow armband, I think. And we all knew what Beckham went through previously against Argentina and that kind of redemption story of scoring that penalty, his celebration." Beckham had been sent off against Argentina in 1998, making his 2002 penalty a redemptive highlight for Kane, who grew up idolizing the former captain.

Now, Kane is set to lead England against the reigning world champions in a high-stakes semifinal. "What an occasion to play one of the best teams. The reigning world champions in a semifinal of the World Cup. I think back to being a kid and having dreams and what it would be like to play in these games," Kane said.

Belief in England's Turn for Glory

Kane emphasized that England's time has come after a series of near misses: the 2018 semifinal loss, missing out in 2022, and back-to-back European Championship final defeats. "To be successful, you have to knock on the door and knock on the door and be there," he told ITV. "And it's not always as simple as that. We'd love to have won in 2018 or 2021 Euros. But it doesn't always work like that. But you have to be there consistently. All of a sudden it's your turn and that's the feeling we've got to take going into these games." When asked directly if he feels that it is England's turn, Kane replied: "I have that feeling for sure."

Approaching the Argentina Semifinal

Kane acknowledged the challenge posed by Argentina, describing them as "a great team who are smart, who are tactical, who know how to buy fouls, know how to slow the game down." He stressed that the focus remains on the team's preparation: "It's England versus Argentina. It's two of the biggest nations going toe to toe, two giants in a semifinal of a World Cup. The rest of it is just a small part for us. We have a focus, we have a preparation that we do in every moment, in every game. And this game is no different. The most important thing is that we back ourselves to be successful on this stage."

Breaking Wayne Rooney's Cap Record

Kane is also set to surpass Wayne Rooney as England's most capped outfield player, reaching 121 caps. He reflected on the achievement: "Most outfield capped player. Yeah. Another special one. It's so hard to process all this in a tournament situation, going past some of the names I have. It started with Beckham at 115 and now going past Wazza at 120. England legends, England greats that until I'm probably retired I won't fully appreciate I'm amongst those names. But it's totally the last thing on my mind going into these games because it's all about the team. It's all about getting into that final."
