Guinness-Taylor Embraces Star Wars Link in Aberdeen Move

Aberdeen's new left-back Nesta Guinness-Taylor has spoken about his famous family connection to Star Wars after completing a free transfer from Northampton Town. The 26-year-old is the great grandson of Sir Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original trilogy, but he is determined to use his own force to break into Stephen Robinson's side.

Family Legacy as Motivation

Guinness-Taylor, who was revealed as Aberdeen's latest signing by Record Sport, said: "As a family we won't shy away from his achievements. It is something we embrace and we are very proud of. He created a legacy and I use that as a bit of motivation as well to create my own part of history in my family as well."

Decision to Join Aberdeen

The left-back left Northampton after their relegation to League Two despite being named player of the year and offered a new deal. He turned down several other offers from England and Scotland to move to Pittodrie. "It was something as soon as Aberdeen showed interest I was eager to get it over the line," he confirmed. "The club speaks for itself. It's rich history. You see things on social media about the club and the fans, to be part of that and speaking to the manager as well was a big thing. He gave me a call and the ambition for this season and the years after, that is something I am very keen to be a part of."

Competition for Places

Guinness-Taylor will compete with Mitchel Frame and Emmanuel Gyamfi on the left flank. He started his career as a left-winger but now favours left-back. "I can play anywhere on the left still, but left-back is my favoured position," he said. "I offer hard work and I like to get forward. I back myself in one v one defensive situations. I want to bring energy to the team and excitement to the fans, get them off their seats. I will live 100% for the badge, that is what I am here to do."

Former Teammates' Advice

The new signing sought advice from former Reading teammate Tom McIntyre, who just left Aberdeen in the summer, and Dean Campbell, who he played with at Northampton. "They were like Aberdeen are a big club and if you get the opportunity you don't say no," he added. "I saw Tom came here last season. He had nothing but good things to say about the club."

Friendly and Cup Debut

Fans will get their first look at Guinness-Taylor in Saturday's friendly at Linfield. Aberdeen then begin their Premier Sports Cup campaign away to Brora Rangers next week. "I have been keeping fit. Part of my game is energy. I am ready to get to work," he told RedTV.

Further Departures

Nicolas Milanovic is set to return to Western Sydney Wanderers, Marko Lazetic is close to a move to Noah FC, and interest is growing in Topi Keskinen from Hajduk Split, Odense, and Debrecen.
