Novak Djokovic has stated his desire to return to Wimbledon for at least one more appearance following his semi-final loss to defending champion Jannik Sinner on Friday. The Serbian, who turned 39 two months ago, was defeated 6-4 6-4 6-4 in just under two and a half hours at the All England Club.
Djokovic's Wimbledon future uncertain
Bidding for a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, Djokovic saw his campaign end abruptly against Sinner, who raised his game significantly after a subdued start to the tournament. Despite regularly reaching the latter stages of Grand Slams, Djokovic has not won a major since the 2023 US Open. When asked if he would return next year at age 40, Djokovic replied: 'I would like to, at least one more time. Let's see.'
Honest assessment of performance
Djokovic was candid about his performance, acknowledging that Sinner's level was superior. 'It was a good old blowout,' he joked. 'Nothing much I could do. I was just half a step late basically in any shot, so… It's very simple as that. He was just a level or more better than I was. I was just not sharp enough, not reactive enough, not balanced enough to play him. That's it. There's not much I could do on the court.'
Sinner's dominance
Sinner, the defending champion, had not looked at his best earlier in the tournament but produced a clinical performance to dispatch Djokovic in straight sets. The victory keeps Sinner on track to defend his title and extends his winning streak at Wimbledon.
