Jamie Carragher has criticised Alexis Mac Allister for publicly discussing his Liverpool contract situation, insisting the Argentine midfielder was "not right" to air his views in a press conference, even after scoring the winning goal against Atletico Madrid.
Mac Allister's Contract Admission
Ahead of the Champions League clash at Anfield, Mac Allister admitted he was saddened that the club had not yet approached him about extending his stay. He conceded that seeing midfield teammates Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai secure new deals had stung, particularly given his role in the team's Premier League title success in 2025.
The World Cup winner responded perfectly on the pitch, scoring as Liverpool came from behind to beat Atletico. However, Carragher remained unimpressed with how the Argentine handled his future publicly.
Carragher's Verdict
Speaking on CBS Sports, the pundit said: "Mac Allister, who talked the talk yesterday and today he walked the walk. Still doesn't make what he did yesterday right in the press conference, but he'll be looked on more favourably after getting the winning goal."
Carragher has consistently criticised Liverpool players who air contract grievances through the media, having previously expressed disapproval when Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah did so. Salah later departed, while Van Dijk remains on Merseyside but is in the final year of his contract.
Mac Allister's Commitment
Mac Allister revealed he had offers to leave Liverpool in the summer but was determined to stay, despite frustration over how the contract saga has unfolded. He said: "Everybody can see I give my 100% for this football club every single day in training, games. Of course, I have very good games and bad games like everyone but always I give my best."
He added: "I see Dominik and Ryan renewing their contracts and that makes me very happy because they deserve it, but at the same time it makes me a little bit sad as I didn't get mine. Of course there is still time. The fans don't need to worry because I will give my 100 per cent until the last day I am here. We will see what happens."
