Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty has reportedly fallen out with friend and fellow swimmer Michael Gunning, leaving him 'broken' ahead of Peaty's wedding to Holly Ramsay. The snub is said to have stemmed from Gunning's continued closeness with Peaty's mother, Caroline, who was disinvited from the wedding.
A source told The Sun that Gunning 'never would have seen this coming' and that Peaty has 'broken us all by acting this way'. The source added that the move 'says it all' about how much Peaty has changed. This is not the first time Gunning has felt hurt by Peaty; he was reportedly 'betrayed' when Peaty's swim academy, AP Race, expanded to Saudi Arabia in 2024.
Gunning, who came out as gay in 2018, is known as the first openly gay and mixed-race swimmer in the UK. Same-sex relations are illegal in Saudi Arabia, with some being sentenced to death. A source claimed: 'Michael fights so hard for LGBT rights, so the Saudi Arabia move was a dagger to the heart. It left him feeling devastated and betrayed.'
Since the expansion, Gunning has stopped being an outspoken ambassador for AP Race. The reports come after Peaty's mother shared cryptic posts on New Year's Eve, including one saying she was 'praying for peace' and another stating she 'lost a piece of myself this year'.
