Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws Due to Wrist Injury

The third tennis major of the year, Wimbledon 2026, begins Monday at SW19, but 16 top players will be absent. Two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz, who won in 2023 and 2024 and lost the 2025 final to Jannik Sinner, will miss the tournament due to a persistent wrist injury, announced in May. He is replaced by Jan Choinski (No. 100).

Marketa Vondrousova Banned Until 2030

2023 women's champion Marketa Vondrousova received a four-year ban from the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) in April for refusing to submit a sample during an out-of-competition test. The Czech player has not competed since January's Adelaide International. Her ban runs until June 2030.

Vondrousova explained: "The recent doping control incident happened because I reached a breaking point after months of physical and mental stress... I reacted as a person who felt scared." She cited an Acute Stress Reaction and Generalised Anxiety Disorder. ITIA CEO Karen Moorhouse stated: "Safety and welfare of players and our testers is really important to us. Our testers are well-trained, professional... They carry ID at all times."
