This recognition comes merely two days after Argentina's head coach Felipe Contepomi branded Curry a 'bully' following England's narrow 27-23 victory over Argentina on Sunday. The controversy stems from a late tackle by Curry in the match's closing minutes that resulted in Argentine player Juan Cruz Mallia sustaining a serious knee injury.
Contepomi's allegations escalated further, claiming that Tom Curry told him to 'f*** off' and physically shoved him during a heated altercation in the tunnel after the final whistle. The Argentine rugby union has formally called for an investigation into the entire incident.

Despite the surrounding controversy, World Rugby has acknowledged Curry's outstanding form throughout the year with this selection. He is joined in the Team of the Year by only one other English player, lock Maro Itoje.
