Manchester United are bracing for a pivotal transfer window as manager Michael Carrick seeks to build on a promising start at Old Trafford. The club aims to improve on last season's third-place finish and make an impact on their Champions League return.
Ederson Deal Agreed, Midfield Reinforcements Sought
Brazilian midfielder Ederson is set to join United from Atalanta, with an early agreement reached for the 26-year-old. Further signings are expected as the club looks to fill the void left by departing Casemiro and strengthen their midfield options.
Mateus Fernandes Transfer Twist
United may face an unexpected obstacle in signing West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. The Portugal international is valued at £80 million by the Hammers, according to reports. Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to offer higher wages than United, as per The Sun. Spurs finished 17th last season but are willing to pay higher salaries for top targets.
Unlike Spurs, United can offer Fernandes Champions League football next season. However, Tottenham's readiness to pay higher wages could be a blow to United's transfer strategy. Southampton will receive 15% of any transfer fee for Fernandes after selling him for £38 million last year. The midfielder scored three goals and provided four assists in 36 league games but could not prevent West Ham's relegation.
Andre Onana Agrees Terms for Exit
Goalkeeper Andre Onana is edging closer to a move away from United. The 30-year-old, who joined from Inter Milan in 2023, spent last season on loan at Trabzonspor. He is set to return to the Turkish club in another loan move, with Trabzonspor covering all wages and paying a loan fee.
Onana lost his starting spot at United last term to new signing Senne Lammens. He made 33 appearances for Trabzonspor, lifting the Turkish Cup. United are also linked with other midfield targets including Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali.
