Lawrence Dallaglio Rebuilds Life After Bankruptcy with New Partner

Rugby icon Lawrence Dallaglio has embarked on a significant personal transformation as he works to rebuild his life after being declared bankrupt amid a tumultuous divorce, while also discovering new love. The former England captain, 53, has established a home with an unidentified brunette partner who has been instrumental in his recovery from a series of devastating personal and financial setbacks.

A Fresh Start in St Albans

Neighbours report that Dallaglio has been quietly reconstructing his life as he and his new partner settle into a recently refurbished rented house in a residential street near St Albans, Hertfordshire. In response to his financial difficulties, Dallaglio has downsized his lifestyle considerably. The detached property, which features four bedrooms and is situated between two larger homes, costs £2,750 per month to rent.

New Companionship and Canine Joy

As Dallaglio regains his footing, he has welcomed an adorable golden retriever puppy named Ziggy into his new household. The puppy even maintains his own TikTok account, with one recent video showing Dallaglio taking Ziggy for a walk accompanied by the caption: ‘Your owner won a rugby World Cup and now you think you’re famous too.’ Ziggy was present when Dallaglio and his partner were photographed together for the first time during a visit to a local garden centre.

Onlookers described the 6ft 4ins former athlete, who weighed 17 stone at his peak, as appearing relaxed in casual attire and entering a more ‘comfortable phase’ in his physical appearance. A neighbour revealed that Dallaglio has been living in the home for approximately nine months, stating: ‘Lawrence moved in with his partner in May. It was a bit of a surprise when he first arrived because he’s this huge World Cup winning rugby legend. But they’ve both really ingratiated themselves well with the neighbours.’

From Glory to Financial Turmoil

Once a giant of English rugby, Dallaglio earned 85 caps for England, including 22 as captain, and was a pivotal member of the 2003 World Cup winning squad. He previously enjoyed the trappings of fame, residing for nearly 25 years in an ‘idyllic’ four-bedroom property in Richmond, Surrey, with his former model wife Alice Corbett, 52, and their three children. The couple purchased the home for £925,000 in 2001 and married in Lake Como in 2005.

However, their marriage faced numerous challenges, including allegations of infidelity and Dallaglio’s involvement in various scandals. The relationship ultimately collapsed alongside Dallaglio’s sports company, leading to the forced sale of their family home for £2.4 million in May 2023. The day after the sale, Dallaglio was declared bankrupt and ordered to surrender his share of the proceeds to cover an overdrawn directors loan exceeding £366,500. Documents from Companies House revealed total debts of £423,570, with additional liabilities over £60,000 owed to liquidators.

Personal Losses and Controversial Past

Dallaglio’s financial woes were compounded by personal tragedy, including the death of his 91-year-old father Vincenzo after a long battle with dementia, which he announced on social media on Christmas Day. This followed the loss of his mother Eileen to cancer in 2008 and his sister Francesca in the 1989 Marchioness riverboat disaster, an event he credits with inspiring his rugby career.

Throughout his career, Dallaglio was no stranger to controversy. In 1999, he was stripped of the England captaincy after allegedly confessing to using prostitutes and drugs, resulting in a £15,000 fine for bringing the game into disrepute. Further scandals included allegations of affairs and, in 2020, court revelations that he made payments totalling £10,500 at a brothel in Holborn that also supplied cocaine. Dallaglio was interviewed under caution but not arrested.

Charity Resilience and Ongoing Challenges

Despite his financial struggles, Dallaglio has managed to keep his charity, Dallaglio RugbyWorks, operational. His bankruptcy followed a narrow avoidance of insolvency in May 2023 when a judge granted him extra time to clear a £700,000 tax bill. An individual voluntary agreement was arranged to pay off debts, but a 2024 report indicated he was still pursued for hundreds of thousands in loans.

As the marriage disintegrated, Alice sought an ‘urgent’ order to sell their home to prevent Dallaglio’s financial ruin. The property was eventually purchased by Brentford defender Jayden Meghoma for £2.7 million, though equity was only around £1.2 million. Alice’s mother, Lydia Corbett, attributed the split to Dallaglio’s troubles, expressing sadness over the divorce.

Now, with a new partner, a rented home, and his loyal puppy Ziggy, Lawrence Dallaglio appears to be forging a path toward stability and happiness, leaving behind the turbulence of his past while focusing on rebuilding his life one step at a time.
