Joe Marler's Touching Family Confession Drives His Health Commitment
Former England rugby star Joe Marler has made a heartfelt confession about what truly motivates him to maintain his fitness and wellbeing following his retirement from professional sports. The Celebrity Traitors participant, who won over a new audience with his quick wit on the BBC show, exclusively shared his personal reasons for prioritising health with a focus on family longevity.
From Rugby Pitch to Family Life: A New Fitness Focus
Joe Marler, recognisable for his distinctive towering stature and impressive physique developed during his rugby career, retired from the sport in November 2024. While fans initially knew him for his athletic prowess on the field, his appearance on The Celebrity Traitors at the end of last year introduced his mischievous personality to a broader audience. Despite leaving professional rugby behind, Marler maintains a rigorous approach to fitness with deeply personal motivations.
When questioned about why health remains paramount in his life, Marler revealed: "Coming from a professional rugby background, staying fit and healthy has always been my top priority. I had to be in perfect condition on the field so I could do my best at every match." He continued with a touching admission: "Now that I'm retired I have to keep healthy for my family. I want to be around for my wife and our four beautiful children for as long as possible."
Family Dynamics Fuel Daily Fitness Routine
Marler, who married wife Daisy in June 2017, shares four children with her: Pixie, Maggie, Felix, and Jasper. He described how his active family life necessitates maintaining physical condition. "While beautiful, having four kids is not for the faint of heart and life is non-stop because of it," Marler explained. "Protein and routine are my non-negotiables to get me through those hectic days."
The former sportsman has been collaborating with wellness brand Ancient + Brave, supporting their new initiative called The Endeavour alongside Davina McCall. He specifically mentioned working with the company ahead of their protein powder launch: "I've actually been working with Ancient + Brave ahead of the launch for their new protein powder Brave Ancestral Protein. It tastes great and helps me meet my protein goals, whilst supporting my body and mind no matter what everyday life brings."
Post-Rugby Career Evolution and Traitors Insights
Since his memorable appearance on The Celebrity Traitors, where he reached the final before being banished as Alan Carr claimed victory, Marler has attracted a substantial new fanbase. He launched his own podcast titled Joe Marler Will See You Now, featuring him as an "unqualified" pseudo-psychologist analysing celebrity guests from SAS Who Dares Wins star Jason Fox to comedian Russell Howard.
His clever wit on the podcast has led to speculation about potential comedy ventures. When asked about career direction, Marler clarified: "I love comedy but I'm not a comedian. I just don't take many things seriously. [I'm] Dipping my toe into the TV world but no idea where it will take me."
With his Traitors experience making him an authority on the game, Marler offered advice for future contestants: "Jump right in! Remember it's just a giant game of wink murder. Watch out for really sweaty men that laugh in your face all the time." His involvement with Ancient + Brave continues through his ambassadorship, supporting women embarking on The Endeavour initiatives while maintaining his family-focused health philosophy.
