York Valkyrie captain Sinead Peach is facing a potential ban that could end her season after being charged with unacceptable language and questioning the integrity of a match official. The incident occurred during Saturday's Super League defeat to St Helens, when Peach was sent off by referee Oliver Salmon.
The England international is alleged to have asked the male official which opposition player he was 's****ing', a comment that was not picked up on the broadcast but was audible to the referee. Salmon is heard responding: "I'm not having you saying, 'Which one are you s****ing?'" before showing the hooker a red card.
Peach has been issued with a Grade E charge, which carries a minimum six-match penalty. The case has been automatically referred to a tribunal, scheduled for Tuesday, September 9. If the charge is proven, the 27-year-old will miss the rest of the regular season and the play-offs for the reigning champions.

Peach has led York to back-to-back Grand Final victories in 2023 and 2024, and was named Woman of Steel in 2023 after being nominated in 2021 and 2022. York chairman Clint Goodchild said the club would continue to support her, adding: "Sinead expressed genuine remorse immediately for the comment and understands the serious nature of the situation."
Goodchild expressed confidence that the tribunal would take into account Peach's "long-standing positive contribution to the game" and her "respectful reputation". The club has not yet commented on whether it will appeal the sanction.
