The moment happened during a rugby sevens match at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, when BBC cameras caught three women celebrating South Africa’s win over Fiji. The woman in the middle took a gulp of her drink, noticed the camera, and after the trio cheered she turned her back to the broadcast and began to twerk.
She then bent over and exposed her backside to the screen, an X-rated moment for viewers watching the rugby. The BBC commentator observed that there was "plenty of dancing" in the crowd before the camera panned to another part of the stadium.
South Africa took gold
South Africa won the gold medal at the 2022 Games, beating Fiji 31-7 in the final. Rugby sevens was one of 19 sports on the programme when Birmingham hosted the event that year.
A slimmer 2026 programme
The sport is among nine cut from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, which has a reduced programme. Glasgow stepped in as host after the Australian state of Victoria withdrew three years ago, citing the rising costs of staging the Games.
The Glasgow Games will feature 10 sports, six of which include adjoining para-sports. The sports are artistic gymnastics; 3x3 basketball and wheelchair basketball; athletics and para athletics; boxing; bowls and para bowls; netball; judo; track and para cycling; weightlifting and para powerlifting; and swimming and para swimming.
Dropped from the previous edition are squash, table tennis, triathlon, wrestling, beach volleyball, badminton, hockey, cricket and rugby sevens.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be broadcast live on TNT Sports from July 23 to August 2, with coverage also available on HBO Max and Prime Video’s TNT Sports channel.
