Trevoh Chalobah, the Chelsea defender, has been named in England's 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup, completing a remarkable journey from watching the national team as a fan in Times Square to representing his country on the global stage.
From Fan to Player
Chalobah, 27, recalled watching England's World Cup matches in New York's Times Square while on holiday, never imagining he would one day be part of the squad. 'I was there as a fan, watching the games on the big screens, and now I'm going to be playing in one,' he said.
Chalobah's Season
The defender has been a key figure for Chelsea this season, making 35 appearances in all competitions. His consistent performances earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate's squad, with the England manager praising his versatility and composure on the ball.
Family Legacy
Chalobah follows in the footsteps of his older brother, Nathaniel Chalobah, who also represented England at youth levels. Trevoh's selection marks the first time the Chalobah name will appear in a senior England World Cup squad.
Squad Announcement
Southgate announced the 26-man squad on Monday, with Chalobah one of four centre-backs included. The squad also features Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham, and Bukayo Saka, as England aim to go one step further after their Euro 2024 final defeat.
World Cup Ambition
Chalobah expressed his excitement about the tournament, saying: 'It's a dream come true. I've worked hard for this, and I can't wait to represent my country.' England begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal on 15 June.
