The home side dominated early possession and territory, but Australia’s defence held firm, and the visitors took a narrow 13-10 lead into half-time after a try from winger Marika Koroibete and two penalties from fly-half Noah Lolesio.
Argentina responded after the break, with tries from hooker Julián Montoya and centre Matías Moroni, either side of an Australia penalty, to set up a tense finish. With the score at 20-20, replacement back Santiago Carreras crossed in the 78th minute to seal the win, igniting celebrations among the home crowd.

The match was played in front of a passionate crowd at the Estadio José Amalfitani, with Argentina’s forwards laying a strong platform in the set-piece and breakdown. Australia, however, stayed in touch through the boot of Lolesio and a well-worked try from Koroibete, who finished a slick backline move in the first half.
Argentina’s head coach, Michael Cheika, praised his team’s character after the match, saying: "It was a tough battle, and I’m proud of the way the boys stuck at it. We knew Australia would come hard, and we had to dig deep."

Australia’s captain, Michael Hooper, admitted his side were disappointed not to hold on, telling reporters: "We had chances, but we let it slip. We’ll review the tape and come back stronger."
