The 2026 World Cup is underway, with all major contenders having played at least one match. France lead the betting at 4/1, ahead of Spain at 5/1, while England and Argentina are joint third favourites at 13/2.
France: Clear Favourites
Didier Deschamps' side has begun their campaign in dominant fashion, recording 3-1 and 3-0 wins over Senegal and Iraq respectively. Kylian Mbappe has scored four goals so far, an ominous sign for rivals. France were champions in 2018 and runners-up in 2022.
Spain: European Champions Bounce Back
Spain started with a surprise 0-0 draw against Cape Verde, but responded with a 4-0 thrashing of Saudi Arabia. Luis de la Fuente's team have not lost a match (excluding penalty shootouts) since 2023.
England: Aiming for Second Title
England are seeking their second World Cup title, 60 years after their 1966 triumph. Thomas Tuchel's side beat Croatia 4-2 in their opener, but face a tough knockout path potentially including Brazil and Argentina.
Argentina: Defending Champions in Form
Argentina have won the World Cup and two Copa Americas recently. They have started with wins over Algeria and Austria, and Lionel Messi has scored five goals, becoming the all-time top scorer in World Cup history.
Brazil: Pressure Mounts
Brazil have not won the World Cup since 2002 and have only reached the quarter-finals once since then. They drew 1-1 with Morocco and beat Haiti 3-0 in a less than convincing display.
Other Contenders
Portugal and Brazil are both at 12/1, Germany at 14/1, Netherlands at 16/1, and USA and Norway at 33/1. Long shots include Japan at 40/1, Colombia and Belgium at 50/1, and Croatia and Morocco at 66/1.
