How the Eight Best Third-Placed Teams Are Decided
The eight best third-placed teams are ranked based on several criteria. First, teams are compared by total points from all group matches. If tied, goal difference across all group matches is considered. If still tied, total goals scored is used. If a tie remains, the Fair Play ranking (yellow and red cards) is applied, and finally, the FIFA World Ranking serves as the ultimate tiebreaker.
As the tournament progresses, teams will need to secure enough points to stay in the top eight. Currently, four points seems to be a safe benchmark, but with matches still to play, the threshold could shift.
