Olympic gold medal sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson has announced plans to seek help following her arrest on 27 July at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The 25-year-old, who won silver in the 100m and gold in the 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics, was arrested after a physical altercation with her boyfriend, US sprinter Christian Coleman.
In an Instagram post on Monday night, Richardson said: 'I'm taking this time to not only see myself but get myself a certain level of help that overall is going to reflect who I truly am in my heart and my spirit.' She added that she appreciated being held accountable and refused to 'run away' from the situation.
Security footage showed Richardson appearing to grab Coleman's backpack and shove him towards a wall while he was moving through the terminal. Richardson later issued an apology to Coleman, citing 'past trauma and pain' as contributing factors. Coleman told the Athletic that he did not believe she should have been arrested, describing the incident as 'a sucky situation all around.'
