Royal Ascot 2026 Day Four Preview: Precise to Shine in Coronation Stakes
Royal Ascot Day Four: Precise Can Win Coronation Stakes

Precise can secure victory in the Coronation Stakes (Fillies) (4.20pm) on day four of Royal Ascot 2026. Aidan O’Brien’s Starspangledbanner filly can again get the better of stable-mate True Love to win the 1m Group One feature of the fourth day of the Royal meeting.

After defeat on her debut last July, Precise progressed into a very smart juvenile winning four in a row. After a seven-furlong maiden success at Leopardstown, she took the Group Three Prestige Stakes at the Glorious Goodwood Festival. Then stepped up to a mile she landed back-to-back Group One successes in the Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh in September and on her final start of 2025 the following month in the bet365 Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.

She was sent off favourite for the Betfred 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket last month, but as connections suspected she was clearly in need of the run, coming home five lengths behind the reopposing stable-mate True Love. But with the benefit of that run Precise turned that form around to land her own slice of Classic glory in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas at the Curragh. She was two-and-a-half lengths to the good there and she can improve again to come out on top in the third clash of O’Brien’s star fillies in a race that is likely to be all about the duo.

Venetian Sun Aims for Repeat Success

Venetian Sun can win for a second successive year at the Royal meeting in the Group One Commonwealth Cup (No Geldings) (3.05pm). Liverpool FC fan, trainer Karl Burke won the six-furlong Group One with a similar filly, Quiet Reflection, in 2016 and Venetian Sun can give him another success 10 years on.

The daughter of Starman won her first starts as a juvenile including a scintillating success in the Group Three Albany Stakes over course and distance at last year’s Royal meeting and then a narrow defeat of Gstaad in the Group One Prix Morny at Deauville last August. Connections decided to first bid for Classic glory this season, but Venetian Sun clearly didn’t stay when she was 11th behind True Love in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket last month.

She returned to six furlongs with a superb victory in the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock Park last month, showing she retains all that raw talent and speed she showed as a juvenile. Quiet Reflection won that same Haydock contest before her Royal victory and Venetian Sun can do something similar. O’Brien’s Charles Darwin and the Clive Cox-trained Coppull – a winner over course and distance in the Commonwealth Cup Trial in April – rate the main dangers to Venetian Sun’s hopes.

Sun Goddess and Causeway Eye Wins

O’Brien’s Sun Goddess can land the opener on day four, the Group Three Albany Stakes (2.30pm). O’Brien’s Sioux Nation filly was beaten a head by stable-mate Carry The Flag on her debut at Naas at the start of last month. But she ran out a five-length winner on her second start in a maiden at the Curragh. And she can follow that up with another success in the Group Three opener on day four.

Another from the O’Brien stable, Causeway, can also triumph in the ‘Ascot Derby’ – the Group Two King Edward VII Stakes (5.35pm). Causeway won a seven-furlong handicap on his return at Naas in March, before grabbing a Listed success over a mile at the Curragh and scoring again in the Group Three Gallinule Stakes also at the Dublin track last month over 1m2f. He is an improving colt and with the step up in trip to 1m4f likely to help with his progression, Causeway can make it four from four starts this season.

Emit, Tricky Tel, and Crownright in Action

Trainer Joseph O’Brien has been in fine form over the past few months over Jumps and on the Flat and having already had success at Royal Ascot this week Emit can give him another winner in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (GBBPlus Race) (3.40pm).

The Hugo Palmer-trained Tricky Tel can bring up a hat-trick of wins in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap (6.10pm). The three-year-old, who is named after his co-owner former Liverpool FC and England striker Michael Owen’s father Terry, has been in fine form – as has the Cheshire-based Manor House Stables – with wins at Hamilton and Chester in the past four weeks. He can go in again in the five-furlong finale on day four.

Ralph Beckett’s Crownright can make it third time lucky this season with victory in the Sandringham Stakes (5pm). The Frankel filly has been second in her two starts so far this campaign over seven furlongs at Ascot and a mile at Leicester last time. She can finally get off the mark on her fourth career start ahead of the hat-trick-seeking Seet – trained by the Gosdens and ridden by Ryan Moore – and Ed Walker’s Passing Thought.
