Canadian pole vaulter Alysha Newman has revealed that her OnlyFans page crashed after she celebrated her bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics with a twerk. The 30-year-old athlete, who has been on the platform since before the Tokyo Games, said the surge in traffic briefly overwhelmed the site.
Newman told Mail Sport that she and her team had to hold an emergency call with OnlyFans software engineers to resolve the issue. Since the start of the Games, she has gained 20,000 new subscribers, grossing at least $155,800 at a discounted subscription price of $7.79. She typically charges $12.99.
The Olympian uses OnlyFans to share 'naughtiest content' but also to give fans a glimpse into her life as an elite athlete. She acknowledged the stigma around the platform but said she has 'so much faith in the company.' The financial boost has helped cover training costs, including weekly chiropractor treatments, a sauna, and a hyperbaric chamber.
Newman also gained 200,000 Instagram followers during the Olympics. She started her OnlyFans account during the COVID-19 pandemic, feeling the need for fan energy in empty stadiums. She now hopes to fund a high-performance track and field centre in Canada, as government stipends are minimal.
Despite some sponsor scepticism, Newman plans to continue on OnlyFans, saying her parents raised her with 'pretty thick skin.' She believes the platform allows her to be her 'authentic self' and predicts that in a few years, people will see her as 'the smartest person ever.'
