Joe Hendry backs Scottish Wrestlemania at Murrayfield

WWE superstar Joe Hendry has told Record Sport he would like to see Wrestlemania take place at Murrayfield. The Scottish wrestler, who has just released a studio album, would love to see things happen close to home, and he reckons Scots could hack a bit of rain for a stadium showcase.

He said: "It would obviously be in Scotland if you gave me the choice. Us Scots are used to tolerating some rain, so I don't think we would mind going through that to get a Wrestlemania in Scotland."

Wrestlemania debut

Hendry made his Wrestlemania debut back in 2025 as Randy Orton's surprise opponent. At the time, he was signed to TNA Wrestling as their World Champion. Recalling the event, Hendry said this was the "greatest moment of his career."

He added: "To walk out to 80,000 people and get that kind of reaction was special. It really gave me confidence and told me that I could be a big star in the world of professional wrestling. It made me realise I was a big star. It validated my goals and how I see myself, and the work I put in every day."

Chart-topping album

His album Beyond Belief is climbing up the iTunes charts, hitting the top 20 albums since its release on Monday. Hendry is no stranger to chart success, with his theme song I Believe hitting number four in the official UK charts in 2024.

WWE saw the potential for an album after Hendry performed a song mocking fellow wrestler The Miz on Smackdown. The song was such a success that WWE's music department got Hendry to put together a full studio album, bashing out 11 songs in a short space of time.

He added: "I basically ended up writing an album in three or four days. It was a super quick process. We recorded it really quickly, and now is the time to put it out with some fun videos."

Homecoming hopes

Amongst his catalogue of songs, Hendry pays homage to his home country on the new album, writing the song Highland Cow as the new 'Scottish anthem'. Here he lists three things Scotland loves: himself, Drew McIntyre, and of course, highland cows.

With WWE returning to Scotland in January, could we see Joe Hendry back in Glasgow at the Hydro? He certainly hopes so. He said: "That would be a dream of mine to walk out at the Hydro and wrestle in Scotland."
