A woman found dead in a burning van in Prestatyn was pregnant at the time of her death, police have confirmed. The victim has been identified as Samantha Natalie Phythian from Rhyl, known as Sammi by her family.
Post-mortem reveals pregnancy
The body of the 35-year-old was discovered in a vehicle on Gas Works Lane, Prestatyn, on Sunday night. A post-mortem examination has since revealed that Sammi was pregnant, according to North Wales Live.
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "Sammi's family have been informed and continue to be supported by specialist officers. Sammi's family have asked for their privacy to be respected at this difficult time and have expressed the pain caused by the level of speculation and discussion on social media."
Man charged with murder
Thomas Matthew Hammond Bell, 38, of Wellington Road, Rhyl, was charged with murder on Wednesday. He appeared at Mold Crown Court on October 9. Bell will enter a formal plea to the murder charge on Friday, November 27, with a provisional trial date set for April next year.
Family tribute
Sammi's family have paid tribute to a "much loved mum, daughter, sister, auntie and friend". In a statement, they said: "Samantha, who everyone knows as Sammi, will be remembered for the special place she held in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved her."
"Her tragic and untimely death has left her family and friends devastated, struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone who meant so much to so many. No family should ever have to endure the pain of losing a loved one in such circumstances."
"While her life has been cruelly cut short, the memories she created, the love she gave and the lives she touched will never be forgotten. She will forever be cherished by those who loved her, and she will be deeply missed."
"As a family we would like to ask people to be mindful and respectful of rumours circulating over social media platforms at this devastating time."
Police appeal
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector Zoie Dunkerley, said: "My thoughts are with Sammi's family and friends. I would also urge the community to be careful of commenting anything which would add to the family's distress or interfere with the ongoing active legal proceedings."
