Jayne Torvill reveals why she quit Dancing on Ice

Olympic gold medalist Jayne Torvill has shared the deeply personal reason behind her decision to leave Dancing on Ice after an incredible four-decade career. The 66-year-old skating icon, who became a household name after winning gold with Christopher Dean at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics, admitted the physical demands of the show finally became too much.

In an emotional interview, Torvill confessed: "Your body starts talking to you, and mine was saying, 'No more!'". The legendary performer revealed she struggled with joint pain and the gruelling schedule required for the ITV competition.

The Final Performance

Torvill's last appearance on the show was particularly poignant. She and Dean performed their iconic Boléro routine one final time during the 2023 series finale - a full-circle moment that left both skaters and viewers in tears.

"That final performance was our way of saying goodbye," Torvill explained. "We wanted to honour the journey we've shared with fans over all these years."

What's Next for the Ice Queen?

While she's stepping back from the spotlight, Torvill isn't leaving skating entirely. She plans to focus on coaching and developing new talent through her skating academy. "I'll always be involved in the sport I love," she promised.

The skating legend also hinted at potential documentary projects that would explore her remarkable career and the evolution of ice dancing. For now though, she's enjoying some well-earned rest and time with family.
