Woman, 22, Mistakenly Takes Home a Seagull While Drunk – Then Discovers It Had Bird Flu
Drunk woman takes home seagull with bird flu

A 22-year-old woman has shared the bizarre tale of how she drunkenly carried a seagull home, only to later discover the bird had avian flu – sparking a frantic deep-clean of her house.

The young woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, initially mistook the bird for a lost pet while under the influence. After realising her error, she bleached her entire home in a panic.

"I thought it was someone's escaped parrot or something," she admitted. "It wasn't until the next morning that I realised what I'd actually brought home."

A Drunken Mistake

The incident unfolded after a night out, when the woman spotted the confused seagull and, in her intoxicated state, decided to "rescue" it. She carefully carried the bird back to her house, unaware of the risks.

"I genuinely thought I was doing a good deed," she said. "But when I woke up, I saw feathers everywhere and panicked."

Bird Flu Scare

After releasing the seagull, she later learned from local wildlife authorities that the bird had been infected with avian flu. Fearing contamination, she immediately disinfected her home.

"I bleached everything – floors, walls, even my clothes," she explained. "I was terrified I might have caught something."

Lessons Learned

Thankfully, tests confirmed she had not contracted the virus. However, the experience has left her wary of late-night animal rescues.

"I won't be picking up any more birds after a night out," she joked. "Lesson learned!"
