Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed that striker Alexander Isak is expected to miss the next four matches due to a groin injury. The Swedish international was forced off during the Magpies' 1-0 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund last Tuesday.
Scan results have revealed that Isak has suffered a recurrence of the groin problem that troubled him last season. Howe will now rely on Callum Wilson as the sole fit senior striker until after the international break in mid-November.
Speaking ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash with Manchester United, Howe said: 'Alex Isak we hope will be back after the international break. I’m not expecting anyone back that we didn’t already have available for Wolves.'
Newcastle are already dealing with a lengthy injury list, including long-term absentees Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, and Elliot Anderson. Midfielder Sandro Tonali is also unavailable after being handed a ten-month ban for betting offences.
The Magpies face a tough run of fixtures before the break, taking on Manchester United, Arsenal, Dortmund, and Bournemouth.
