Two-time Olympian Denisa Baránková has tragically died at the age of 24 after being struck by a car in Bratislava, Slovakia. The archer, who represented Slovakia at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympics, was hit on Osuského Street in Petržalka on 21 June. She was rushed to Kramáre Hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day.
Details of the Accident
According to Slovak police, a 42-year-old man driving a BMW X5 allegedly mistook the accelerator for the brake, crashing into an 11-year-old girl and Baránková. The girl sustained chest and head injuries along with a fractured femur, while Baránková's injuries proved fatal. An investigation is underway.
Career and Achievements
Baránková was a pioneering athlete, becoming the first Slovak to qualify for the World Games. She won an individual recurve gold medal at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China. Her husband, Vladimír Hurban Jr., and her family have been left heartbroken by the tragedy.
