Remco Evenepoel is leading the stage 16 individual time trial of the Tour de France 2026, a 26.1km course from Évian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains along Lake Geneva. The Belgian world champion is 16 seconds quicker than Tadej Pogacar through the third time check, with Pogacar having a wobble on a corner where Florian Lipowitz crashed.
Lipowitz Crashes Out
Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe) crashed heavily on a bend, his wheel sliding out. He came down on his shoulder and may have hit his head on the kerb, and is now being put into an ambulance. His race is over.
Skjelmose Takes Lead
Mattias Skjelmose (Lidl-Trek) moved into the lead with a time of 33 minutes 23 seconds, but Evenepoel is now the fastest through the first checkpoint, 21 seconds ahead. Pogacar trails Evenepoel by seven seconds at the first checkpoint.
Earlier Leaders
Mattia Cattaneo (Red Bull Bora-Hansgrohe) took the lead with a 13-second advantage over Bruno Armirail (Visma Lease-a-Bike), averaging 46km/h. Josh Tarling (Netcompany-Ineos) had set the quickest time earlier at 34 minutes 21 seconds, with Filippo Ganna four seconds slower.
The stage features the category two Côte de Larringes, a 9.7km climb at 4.3%, followed by a descent to the finish. The GC battle is between Evenepoel and Pogacar, with interest also in the young rider's jersey contest between Isaac del Toro and Paul Seixas.
