Richie Lunt has vowed to deliver a statement performance when he takes on Thom Warburton on the Total Kombat 04 card this weekend. The event, which is sold out, takes place at the Olympia in Liverpool on Saturday.
Total Kombat is a new fight promotion headed by British UFC star Michael 'Venom' Page, one of the most decorated martial artists in British history. Page is famous for his unorthodox striking style and created Total Kombat as a platform for the new generation of strikers like himself.
All-Striking Combat Sports Promotion
Total Kombat is an all-striking combat sports promotion built around a unique oval ruleset, bringing elite athletes from the world of karate, taekwondo, and kickboxing. Lunt, who fights out of the Streetwise Fighters Gym, expressed his appreciation for the setup.
“I really like the setup,” Lunt told the ECHO. “It gives a big professional platform for our sport, it’s a pathway for people coming out of the amateur circuit where they can stay in their sport instead of having to go into MMA or boxing. And I like the rules, they allow a wide range of techniques like throws as well. The fights are short, fast-paced, all action. The pace is really high. There is nowhere to rest and the rules don’t allow stalling.”
Live Broadcast on ITVX
Fighting in front of a sellout crowd at the Olympia on Saturday night is already a big deal, but the show will also be broadcast live on ITVX. “Fighting on ITV feels big,” Lunt admitted. “You’re doing the walkouts through the crowd, cameras on you, the whole production. It’s very different to the amateurs.”
Lunt recalled a funny moment from his first Total Kombat fight: “Although my first fight for Total Kombat was funny because they accidentally played the wrong walkout song for me. They played my opponent’s music instead of mine, so I had to walk out to some Spanish tune. It didn’t bother me, I found it funny.”
Personal Motivation
Lunt’s motivation extends beyond the cage. “It’s always about winning the next fight and being known as one of the best strikers in the world. And of course my children: my son, Junior, and his newborn sister, Luna-Mae.”
