Oscar Piastri has vowed to rediscover the “unstoppable” feeling he experienced during his breakthrough Formula 1 season, after finishing runner-up in Abu Dhabi and third in the drivers’ championship. The Australian, who won seven races in 2024, admitted he felt invincible at times but suffered a costly mid-season slump that allowed teammate Lando Norris to clinch the title.
Reflecting on his campaign, Piastri said: “When things have been good this year, I’ve felt unstoppable at points – and to even be able to get to that point is a pretty cool feeling. There’s been plenty of times where that’s not been the case, too, and I think I’ve learned a lot of lessons on how to deal with tough moments.” He finished just 13 points behind Norris, with a barren spell from Azerbaijan to Brazil proving decisive.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella believes Piastri can win the championship “multiple” times, and the 23-year-old is determined to use the disappointment as motivation. “On a personal level, it’s obviously not quite the ending that I wished for, but when you look at the season as a whole, I’m very proud of the work I, and my team, have been able to put in,” he said.
Norris paid tribute to his teammate, saying: “I’ve learned a lot from him, and he showed me up many times. I wouldn’t be the driver I am today without that. He’s made me have to dig even deeper than I ever have before.” Piastri, meanwhile, is already looking ahead: “There are plenty more years left to go and hopefully plenty more opportunities.”
