Phantom Gold (7.15) is the value pick to win the EBCS Hideout Novices' Limited Handicap Hurdle at Newton Abbot on Tuesday.
Phantom Gold Poised for Hurdle Success
The lightly raced eight-year-old caught the eye two weeks ago when finishing fast and late to take the runner-up spot a length behind Prettylady in a two-mile Southwell handicap hurdle. He gave weight away that day, and as a result the handicapper was impressed enough to give him a 4lb rise.
Now rated on 95, Jennie Candlish's gelding is on an upward curve. Considering he has only run in a bumper – which he won at the Devon course by nine lengths – and three hurdle events, there's every reason to believe he can take the added burden and the extra two and a half furlongs in his stride.
Scott Dixon's Rare Visit to Ffos Las
Scott Dixon makes a rare visit to Ffos Las, with Grey Horizon (2.30) running in the six-furlong South Wales Medical Event Cover Handicap. The three-year-old son of Havana Grey has had plenty of racing since joining the yard from Richard Fahey last autumn – 16 runs in all – scoring a hat-trick on the all-weather in January, followed by another sand-dune success the following month.
He found the turf to his liking at Brighton on his penultimate start, winning going away, and his third last time out at Windsor on good to soft ground was better than the bare result suggests.
