MSK Sports Injury Clinic, founded by Mark Poolan in his Newcastle conservatory in 2017, has grown into a thriving business in Westerhope, now treating world champion boxers and reality TV stars. The clinic, which started with just Poolan, now boasts a team of six and four treatment rooms.
From Conservatory to Thriving Business
Mark Poolan, 38, gained experience at companies in Newcastle and Dubai before launching his own clinic. The venture expanded to a dedicated space in Westerhope, becoming a favourite for athletes rehabilitating injuries. Clients include world champion boxer Savannah Marshall and Geordie Shore star Aaron Chalmers.
Poolan said: "It was just me to start with, and to have grown as much as we have in less than 10 years is amazing. When we do get the famous faces in, they all have such massive followings on social media, so that helps us out as a business too."
Diverse Clientele and Advanced Equipment
The clinic serves a wide range of clients, from six-year-olds to 98-year-olds, treating everything from office injuries to sports-specific problems. Poolan emphasises staying ahead of the curve by reinvesting in new equipment. "We are quite busy as a business, and usually people have to book quite far in advance," he said.
All staff are trained to the same level to ensure treatment continuity. The team includes Senior Therapist Steven Moon, Clinic Manager Sarah McMillan, Abbi Bertram, Emily Robertson, and Bethany Hogg.
Sustainable Growth and Future Plans
Poolan recently took time away from the clinic after his wife gave birth to their first child, Joshua, six weeks ago. He said: "I remember reading a quote which said: 'a business that you cannot step away from isn't truly a business, but a job', and that stuck with me."
Looking ahead, Poolan plans to expand across the North East. "I have discussed with my wife before that I would like to get a few more clinics around the region in different places, allowing us to expand and open the services up to more people," he said. The clinic has won prestigious industry awards every year since 2022.
