A new fan zone has opened in Washington, Tyne and Wear, billed as the 'ultimate' place to watch England's World Cup quarter final against Norway on Saturday night. The fan zone at the River Bar has been constructed in just 48 hours, featuring two large screens and an outdoor bar, ready to welcome supporters for the match.
England's Path to the Quarter Finals
England advanced to the last eight after a thrilling win against Mexico at the Azteca stadium in Miami, sparking celebrations in Newcastle as the sun came up on Monday. Meanwhile, Norway secured their spot by knocking out Brazil, thanks to two goals from star striker Erling Haaland. The two teams now face off for a place in the semi-finals.
Fan Zone Details
The fan zone is located at the well-known River Bar in Washington, which is also the hometown of England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, making it an apt location for an England fan zone. A large crowd is expected, with a DJ set to perform from 6pm. A Facebook teaser for the event reads: 'THE ULTIMATE WORLD CUP FANZONE IS HERE! England are through to the Quarter-Finals, and we’re bringing you Washington’s biggest World Cup fanzone. Grab your mates, wear your England colours and experience the biggest atmosphere in town as the Three Lions battle for a place in the semi-finals.'
Attendance and Availability
The event is expected to be a sell-out. Those interested in attending should contact the River Bar to check availability for tables. The fan zone is one of several indoor and outdoor venues across Newcastle showing the game.
