Mercedes Abandon George Russell Appeal in Monaco GP Penalty Case
Mercedes Abandon Russell Appeal Over Monaco Penalty

Mercedes have decided to withdraw their Right of Review petition into the decision to rescind Pierre Gasly's post-Monaco time penalty, ending hopes of changing George Russell's race result. The team made the decision barely 24 hours after lodging it to the FIA.

Background of the Incident

During a chaotic Monaco Grand Prix, five drivers were handed time penalties for speeding in the pit lane. Among them was George Russell, whose initial penalty was not correctly served at his first pit stop, resulting in a drive-through penalty. He finished the race in 12th place.

However, Pierre Gasly's points penalty was rescinded after Alpine filed a Right of Review before the Barcelona Grand Prix. That decision turned Gasly's seventh-place finish into his first podium of the season.

Mercedes' Decision

Mercedes filed their own Right of Review into the decision to rescind Gasly's penalty, but have since admitted defeat. The team's withdrawal means the race result stands unchanged.

This development adds to a frustrating season for George Russell, who has struggled to find consistent form in 2026.
