Jack Downham has officially left Emmerdale after 17 years on the show, with his final scenes airing on Wednesday (August 5). The 24-year-old actor, who played Noah Dingle, took to Instagram to confirm his departure and thank fans and co-stars.
Final scenes and emotional goodbye
In Wednesday night's episode, Noah told his mum Charity, played by Emma Atkins, that he was leaving the village for a new job in Düsseldorf, Germany. Charity was devastated but eventually supported his decision, and Noah left in heartbreaking scenes.
After the episode, Jack shared a heartfelt Instagram post, writing: "Noah Dingle over & out. What a bloody beautiful place to have worked for 17 years!" He also posted a series of photos, including his first ever scene as a seven-year-old with on-screen mum Charity, and a selfie in prison attire from a storyline where Noah was jailed.
Cast and crew reaction
A source close to the show said: "Jack is such a lovely lad, and everyone adores him. He’s been on the show since he was a young child so it’s all he’s ever known." They added: "He was told of the news last month and his axing has once again sent shockwaves through the cast and crew, but Jack is looking at the positives though and is hopeful about future opportunities."
Jack's exit had been confirmed for weeks as ITV continues to manage budget cuts, which have already led to the departures of beloved characters Jimmy King and Nicola, played by Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler. Meanwhile, Patsy Kensit is set to return as Sadie King after 20 years.
