McLaren has called Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri for a team debrief following their collision during the Singapore Grand Prix. The incident occurred on the opening lap at the Marina Bay circuit, where Norris attempted an overtake on Piastri, making contact with his teammate after clipping Max Verstappen's Red Bull ahead.
Norris defended his actions, stating: 'Anyone on the grid would have done exactly the same thing as I did, so if you fault me for just going on the inside of a big gap then you should not be in Formula One.' He admitted misjudging the proximity to Verstappen but insisted the move was legitimate. The stewards took no action, and the FIA deemed the incident a racing incident.
Piastri expressed frustration at the time, believing Norris had forced him off the track. However, he reserved final judgment until reviewing replays. 'I need to look more at the replays and in more detail and come to my conclusion then,' he said. The pair finished third and fourth, with Norris narrowing the championship gap to 22 points.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella confirmed the team would review the clash. 'We have to put everything in perspective. It's the comments from a driver in a Formula One car, there's the heat of the moment. As usual we will have a good conversation, build from there and come up stronger,' he said.
