Lando Norris has dismissed complaints from McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri after the pair collided during the Singapore Grand Prix, insisting his overtaking move was justified. The incident occurred on the opening lap at the Marina Bay circuit, where Norris attempted to pass Piastri but clipped Max Verstappen's Red Bull before making contact with his teammate.
“Anyone on the grid would have done exactly the same thing as I did, so if you fault me for just going on the inside of a big gap then you should not be in Formula One,” Norris said. “There was nothing wrong with what I did.” The stewards took no action, and Norris finished third, while Piastri came fourth.
Piastri was furious after the race, calling it unfair that the team did not ask Norris to return the position. However, he later said he would reserve judgment until a team debriefing. “I need to look more at the replays and in more detail and come to my conclusion then,” he added.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella downplayed the tension, noting that comments made in the heat of the moment would be discussed constructively. “We have to put everything in perspective. It’s the comments from a driver in a Formula One car, there’s the heat of the moment,” he said.
