McGregor Booed After 69-Second Comeback Ends in Injury

Conor McGregor's highly anticipated return to the UFC Octagon ended in disaster as his comeback fight lasted just 69 seconds before a devastating knee injury forced the referee to wave off the bout. The Irishman was booed by the Las Vegas crowd at the T-Mobile Arena as he exited the Octagon.

Injury Strikes Early

Seconds into the opening round of the welterweight main event at UFC 329, McGregor threw a jumping roundhouse kick and immediately blew out his knee on his standing leg. The referee stopped the fight after one minute and nine seconds, marking a cruel repeat of history for McGregor, whose previous fight in 2021 ended with a broken left leg against Dustin Poirier.

Despite Max Holloway's efforts to urge the crowd to show respect, the arena heavily booed McGregor as he walked out. This was the second fight between the two, following McGregor's unanimous decision victory in a featherweight clash in 2013.

McGregor's Confidence Before the Fight

McGregor, 37, had been confident heading into the bout. "Weight's on point, body's on point, mind's sharper than ever, plan is laid set, and I'm ready to go to war," he said before the fight. "I plan to contort Max's body into such uncomfortable positions and have my way with him."

The injury dashed hopes of a triumphant return for the former dual-weight champion, who had not fought since back-to-back losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021.
