Man Utd begin talks to sign £50m Summerville ahead of Arsenal

Manchester United are in direct talks with West Ham over a deal to sign Crysencio Summerville, according to reports. Summerville is expected to leave West Ham this summer following the club’s relegation from the Premier League last season.

Summerville's profile and price tag

The 24-year-old, who impressed for the Netherlands at the World Cup, was signed by West Ham for an initial £25 million from Leeds United two years ago. According to talkSPORT, United are now in ‘exploratory’ talks with West Ham to discuss a move for Summerville. The report claims that West Ham are demanding a £50 million fee for the Netherlands international, although any move from United depends on whether they can find a buyer for Marcus Rashford.

Other suitors and alternatives

Summerville is not short of options as Paris Saint-Germain have also made an approach to West Ham. Arsenal are also considering a move for Summerville with Mikel Arteta keen to strengthen the left side of Arsenal’s attack. United are also said to have Crystal Palace and Senegal winger Ismaila Sarr on their shortlist of attacking options.

Paul Merson's endorsement

Speaking exclusively to Metro last month, Paul Merson endorsed Arsenal’s interest in Summerville. ‘For me, they need a left winger to go to the next level, and they need to send it forward, in my opinion,’ Merson said. ‘If Arsenal can get them two, I still think they win the league next year, but then I think they absolutely dominate football. When you look at the transfer market, there are options out there. Someone like Summerville has been terrific. He’s played well for West Ham and started really well at the World Cup for the Netherlands. He’d certainly be the kind of player profile that Arsenal should be looking at.’
