Nicki Strong, Head of Communications and Marketing for Racing Welfare, has died suddenly at the age of 41. The charity, which supports the horse racing workforce, said it was left ‘absolutely heartbroken’ by her death.
Racing Welfare chief executive Dawn Goodfellow said: ‘Nicki joined the team in 2021 and was never happier than when she was with horses. She was passionate about equine sports, grew up riding from a young age and even bought and retrained a number of ex-racehorses.’
Ms Strong, who lived in Hampshire, was responsible for projects including the Castle to Abbey Challenge and a series of videos for Mental Health Awareness Week. Ms Goodfellow added: ‘The positive impact of her work on the lives of many cannot be overestimated.’
Her sister Kerry Machin paid tribute on X, writing: ‘It is with the deepest sadness that on Sunday, 5th October 2025, we lost our beautiful daughter, little sister, and auntie @missnickistrong. Nicola was only 41 — far too young.’
Before joining Racing Welfare, Ms Strong worked as Head of Communications for Prior’s Court and spent nine years at Macmillan Cancer Support. She also spent five years as a press officer for the Hickstead Derby and Royal International Horse Shows.
