Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has moved to quash rumours surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s future with the Scuderia, insisting the seven-time world champion remains a key part of the Italian team’s long-term plans.
Speaking ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, Vasseur dismissed speculation that Hamilton’s delayed move to Ferrari—scheduled for 2025—could be in jeopardy. The British racing icon announced his shock switch from Mercedes earlier this year, but recent whispers suggested internal doubts over the deal.
Vasseur’s Firm Stance
"Lewis is a legend, and we’re fully committed to him joining Ferrari," Vasseur stated. "There’s no hesitation on our side. The project with him is very much alive."
The Frenchman’s comments come amid reports that Ferrari chairman John Elkann had privately expressed reservations about Hamilton’s age (39) and competitive longevity. However, Vasseur brushed off such claims, emphasising Hamilton’s "unmatched experience and winning mentality."
Hamilton’s Mercedes Farewell
Meanwhile, Hamilton continues to see out his final season with Mercedes, where he has raced since 2013. The Briton has struggled for consistency this year but remains determined to end his tenure on a high note.
"My focus is still on giving my all for Mercedes this season," Hamilton said recently. "But of course, I’m excited for the next chapter."
Ferrari’s 2025 Vision
Ferrari’s pursuit of Hamilton signals their ambition to return to championship contention. The team last won a drivers’ title in 2007 with Kimi Räikkönen and has since faced stiff competition from Red Bull and Mercedes.
"Lewis brings more than just speed—he brings leadership," Vasseur added. "We’re building something special for 2025 and beyond."
With the Belgian Grand Prix underway, all eyes remain on Hamilton’s form as he prepares for his high-profile transition to the Prancing Horse.
