Britney Spears mysteriously alluded to the 'interesting year' she has experienced in a since-deleted Instagram post on Thursday. The 44-year-old singer was arrested in March on suspicion of driving under the influence and subsequently entered a substance abuse rehabilitation facility for three weeks. Earlier this month, she accepted a plea bargain known as a 'wet reckless,' a term for a DUI charge reduced to reckless driving. She was sentenced to 12 months of probation, a $571 fine, and mandatory attendance at 30 hours of DUI classes over a three-month program.

In her Instagram post, Spears avoided discussing her legal troubles and instead shared a freewheeling account of her 'arts and crafts' experiments with stained glass. She wrote, 'This year has been quite interesting… I’ve never done so many arts and crafts and it’s sort of embarrassing ok so I might have went a bit coo coo in the nest when I honestly believed I could create my own stained glass ….' She described arranging 'bits and pieces of broken glass' on 'white sheets,' but was unable to use her 'glass blowing machine' for unknown reasons.
Emotional Kitchen Issues
Spears also touched on the 'emotional issues' she faces in the kitchen, noting, 'I have a lot of emotional issues that come up in my kitchen… I guess that’s usually where we as family all come together to celebrate, pray and cook and well for some reason I did my crafts there….' She painted through the night and completed a stained glass lamp, which she switched on to observe the results. The experience left a powerful impression: 'To my surprise it was by no means perfect but my heart and whole body became one with it and I melted with the soft pink and purple glow before me as if I fell in love.'
She added, 'Ok I get its a f***king broken lamp with shattered glass pieces put together somehow to create light… but I found myself wanting to go to the kitchen after years of not wanting to… I was excited to go to the kitchen in the middle of the night to eat my cereal or snacks … something very demure to me and one of a kind.' Her handmade lamp gave her 'the most peaceful feeling' and remained in her kitchen for three months until she accused her housekeeper of accidentally throwing it out 'as if it was a napkin.' Spears sighed that she was 'used to people taking my things' now.
Dashcam Footage and DUI Arrest
Her post came a week after humiliating dashcam footage from her March 4 DUI arrest emerged, showing her failing a field sobriety test and being handcuffed. Spears was allegedly seen driving erratically on the US-101 freeway near Newbury Park, California, leading to a police pursuit. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, according to the California Highway Patrol. A police report obtained by the Daily Mail claimed Spears confessed to taking Adderall, Prozac, and the mood stabilizer Lamictal, and had drunk 'one champagne mimosa' seven hours earlier. The arresting officer alleged, 'I detected the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her breath and person. Her speech was rapid and slurred, her gait was unsteady, and she was fidgeting with her fingers.'
Law enforcement also discovered an unprescribed Adderall bottle in her purse and an empty wineglass in a front cupholder. During the conversation, her 'mood changed from confrontational and agitated to flamboyant and compliant,' and she occasionally spoke 'nonsensically,' allegedly appearing to speak with a British accent at times and inviting officers to her home to make them lasagna, saying, 'I have a pool.'
Rehab and Aftermath
Between her arrest in early March and the plea deal in May, Spears spent three weeks in substance abuse rehab. Days after leaving the facility, eyewitnesses claimed to have seen her looking agitated, barking, and carrying a knife at the Blue Dog Tavern in Sherman Oaks. Her representative told the Daily Mail, 'This is completely blown out of proportion. She was simply telling the story about how her dog was barking at the neighbors.' He maintained she was enjoying a quiet dinner with her assistant and bodyguard, and never put anyone in danger with a knife, as she was cutting her hamburger in half.
Conservatorship and Family Relations
Spears' legal woes come less than five years after she was freed from a 13-year conservatorship, which began when her father Jamie was placed in control of her life after her 2008 breakdown. During that period, she shaved her head and attacked a paparazzo's car with an umbrella.
