Viktor Gyokeres has responded to reports that Arsenal are considering offering him to Atletico Madrid in a swap deal involving Julian Alvarez. The Atletico forward has been a long-time target for Arsenal and has become a key figure in the summer transfer market after rejected bids from both Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Background of the Transfer Rumours
Real Madrid failed with a bid worth €150 million (£130 million) for Alvarez earlier this month, while Barcelona incurred Atletico's displeasure for what they deemed an inappropriate transfer pursuit. Atletico Madrid insists that the only way Alvarez leaves is if his €500 million (£431 million) release clause is triggered, amid reports that Arsenal were devising ways to reduce that figure.
Gyokeres' Response
Speaking before Sweden's World Cup last-32 clash with France, Gyokeres played down speculation over his future. "Of course it's flattering to see that clubs are interested but I feel extremely comfortable at Arsenal," he said. "After the season we have had, I only have positive feelings." When asked how he handles transfer rumours during the tournament, Gyokeres stated: "Nothing. I'm here, have a fairly important match, and that is the main focus."
Arsenal's Interest in Alvarez
Arsenal's interest in Alvarez dates back over a year, with Mikel Arteta reportedly considering a move for the World Cup winner last summer before opting for Gyokeres. The Gunners have been linked with an audacious swap deal involving Gyokeres to bring Alvarez to the Emirates Stadium.
