Martin Brundle, the former Formula One driver turned Sky Sports commentator, has dismissed reports that his net worth is £75.7 million, calling the figure 'incredibly stupidly high' and 'utter nonsense'. The 65-year-old was put on the spot by colleague Natalie Pinkham during a YouTube video ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix.
When Pinkham asked about his wealth, Brundle quickly rejected the figure reported by Celebrity Net Worth, which would make him richer than most current F1 stars. 'The number is incredibly stupidly high, utter nonsense, so we've got to assume everybody's is,' he said. Pressed for a specific figure, he added: 'No, because I don't know it, but it's nowhere near. It's not a fraction of the number that's in there.'
Brundle, who drove for McLaren, Williams, and Benetton during his racing career, is best known for his iconic grid walks on Sky Sports, where he interviews celebrities and drivers before races. Despite the segment's popularity, Brundle has admitted he dislikes doing them. In a 2022 social media post, he wrote: 'There's a reason why I've never watched one back in a quarter of a century of doing them. You have no idea how much I dislike doing them but somehow those crazy moments have defined my professional career.'
Speaking to GQ, Brundle explained he prefers interviewing drivers over celebrities because they share a common background. 'They know you've been there, you've done it, you've seen it, you've crashed the car, and you're going to ask something relevant or personal,' he said. He avoids sensitive topics like contract negotiations, focusing instead on race-related questions to build trust.
