Brad Pitt's latest film, F1, has become the actor's highest-grossing movie at the global box office, surpassing his previous record held by World War Z. The racing drama has earned over $545 million (£410 million), edging out the $540 million (£407 million) achieved by the 2013 zombie thriller.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 also set a new record for Apple Studios, becoming the company's most successful theatrical release. It outperformed Ridley Scott's Napoleon ($221 million) and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon ($158 million). The film stars Pitt as veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who returns to Formula 1 with fictional team APX GP.
Among Pitt's other box office hits are Mr and Mrs Smith ($487 million), Ocean's Eleven ($450 million), and Once Upon a Time...in Hollywood ($377 million), the latter earning him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2020. The only film featuring Pitt with a higher box office revenue is Deadpool 2 ($785 million), in which he had a brief cameo.
Despite its commercial success, F1 received mixed reviews. The Independent's Clarisse Loughrey gave it two stars, criticising the script for sidelining real racing skill in favour of a clichéd narrative. The film, executive produced by seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, was released in June.
While F1 leads Pitt's filmography, it trails behind 2025's biggest releases, including Disney's Lilo & Stitch ($1 billion), A Minecraft Movie ($955 million), and Jurassic World: Rebirth ($766 million). The top earner is Chinese animated film Ne Zha 2 with $1.8 billion, largely from its domestic market.
