Alpine F1 Faces Major Overhaul: Provost Steps Down Amidst Team Restructuring
Alpine F1 restructures as Provost leaves engineering role

Alpine's Formula 1 team is undergoing a significant transformation as interim team principal Bruno Famin confirms the departure of David Provost, the brand's vice-president of engineering. The shake-up sees Philippe Krief stepping into Provost's role, marking a pivotal moment for the struggling French outfit.

A New Era for Alpine F1

The Enstone-based team has faced mounting pressure following a disappointing start to the 2024 season. With just two points from five races, Alpine sits at the bottom of the constructors' championship – a far cry from their fourth-place finish in 2022.

Leadership Changes

Bruno Famin, who took temporary charge last summer, revealed the restructuring during the Miami Grand Prix weekend. "We are making strategic changes to strengthen our technical team," Famin stated. "Philippe Krief's appointment brings fresh perspective to our engineering operations."

The move comes as part of wider changes within Alpine's motorsport division, including:

  • Technical director Matt Harman's resignation in February
  • Head of aerodynamics Dirk de Beer's departure
  • Ongoing evaluation of the team's performance structure

Road to Recovery

Alpine's parent company Renault has made clear its expectations for improved results. The team's new A524 car has struggled with pace and reliability, prompting this latest management reshuffle. Krief, previously Alpine's VP of product performance, now faces the challenge of turning around the team's technical operations.

With the European season approaching, all eyes will be on whether these changes can revive Alpine's competitive edge in Formula 1's midfield battle.
