Youri Tielemans has been forced to miss Belgium's World Cup quarter-final against Spain after suffering a hamstring injury during the warm-up, according to the BBC. The Aston Villa midfielder, who captains the Belgian side, had played in all five of Belgium's World Cup games this summer, scoring twice in the 3-2 win over Senegal in the round of 32.
Injury Details and Replacement
The 29-year-old pulled out of the warm-up ahead of the game and was seen returning to the dressing room with a member of Belgium's medical staff. Hans Vanaken replaced Tielemans in the starting line-up, while Kevin De Bruyne was named captain for the match.
Additional Injury Blow
Belgium had already been dealt a major injury blow before the match against Spain, as Amadou Onana, who also plays for Aston Villa, was ruled out for the rest of the tournament due to a torn ACL.
Match Context
If Belgium beat Spain on Friday night, they will face France in the semi-final on July 14. The match is a crucial World Cup quarter-final clash between two football powerhouses.
