NFL Star Critically Injured in Early Morning Shooting
New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd is fighting for his life after being critically wounded in a shooting in midtown Manhattan. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 16 November 2025, sending shockwaves through the NFL community.
The New York Police Department confirmed that a 29-year-old man was shot in the abdomen just after 2 a.m. outside a business on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
Team and Teammates React to the News
While police have not officially named the victim, multiple news outlets have identified the injured man as Kris Boyd. The New York Jets organisation acknowledged the situation in a brief statement, saying, "We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time." Attempts to reach Boyd's agent for comment were not immediately successful.
The news prompted an immediate outpouring of support from his teammates on social media. Linebacker Jermaine Johnson pleaded, "Everybody please send prayers to my brother and teammate Kris Boyd and his family!!!" Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips also asked for divine intervention, posting, "Lord, place your mighty hand on him as he fights... Kris is a fighter and we’re all here for him."
A Season Cut Short by Injury
This devastating event comes during what has already been a difficult season for the athlete. Boyd, a special teams standout, hasn't played this season, his first with the Jets, after being placed on the season-ending injured reserve list on 18 August with a shoulder injury that required surgery.
He had signed with New York as a free agent in March and was anticipated to be a key player for the revamped special teams unit under new coach Aaron Glenn and coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, his hopes were dashed during a training camp practice on 2 August, when he injured his left shoulder and had to be carted off the field.
Boyd built his reputation over his first six NFL seasons, most notably with the Houston Texans, where his passionate play sometimes made headlines. Authorities confirm that no arrests have been made and the investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
