Erling Haaland has joked that Martin Odegaard is responsible for the three stitches on his face after a freak accident on international duty with Norway.
The Manchester City striker scored the only goal as Norway beat Finland on Thursday, and the squad are now preparing to face Moldova in their latest World Cup qualifier. Haaland will play with a cut below his lip after getting off the team bus at a hotel in Oslo and standing too close to the trunk door, which swung open and hit him in the mouth.
Haaland posted a picture of the cut on Snapchat, saying: 'Just got banged out by a bus door. Three stitches.' When asked how it happened, a fan joked that Odegaard was responsible, to which Haaland replied: 'Correct.'
Norway are attempting to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1998. They sit top of Group I with a perfect record from four qualifiers, including a 3-0 win over Italy. They face Moldova on Tuesday, who have lost all four qualifiers. Haaland has scored four goals in the campaign, bettered only by Memphis Depay and Andrej Kramaric with five.
