Australian television personality and comedian Dave Hughes is in a serious condition in hospital after a charity Australian Rules football match took a devastating turn.
The 53-year-old radio host, known to millions as 'Hughesy', was playing in an AFL legends match when he suffered a heavy collision, resulting in multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung.
Despite the severe injury, Hughes reportedly continued to socialise and party until 2 am before the true gravity of his condition became apparent. He was subsequently rushed to hospital where he was immediately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Medical professionals are now closely monitoring the comedian, who is understood to be in significant pain but in stable condition. A punctured lung, or pneumothorax, is a serious medical emergency where air collects in the space between the lung and the chest wall, requiring immediate treatment to prevent further complications.
The incident occurred during a charity event meant to celebrate the sport, highlighting the unpredictable and physical nature of Australian Rules football, even in veteran matches.
Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with messages of support, wishing the popular broadcaster a speedy and full recovery.
